"I get very anxious at night, it's hard to sleep. Very worried, very anxious."

"What's making you anxious?"

"I don't know."

"What kinds of things are you thinking about?"

"I don't know."

"Do you have trouble breathing?"

"No, just very anxious, very worried."

"Is something happening at home?"

"Something bad?"

"Yeah, something bad. Is someone hurting you? Is someone sick?"

"No, no, everything is good."

"And you don't know what you're thinking about when you can't sleep and you get anxious?"

"No, no, I don't know."

"What kinds of things go through your head?"

"I don't know. That's why I came to you."

"So I can tell you what thoughts you're having?"

"Yes."

"I can't do that. I don't know what thoughts are in your head. You have to help me understand what you're thinking about, or it's hard for me to address the problem."

"No, I came to you to figure it out."

"I'm not a psychic, I'm a doctor."

"Okay."

"I'm going to send you for a workup to see if something physiological is causing the anxiety."

"Okay."

"I'm also going to refer you to the social worker, because she will have more time to talk to you about any non-medical issues that may be causing the anxiety."

"Okay, thank you."

"Do you have any more questions for me?"

"Just one more thing. Another doctor gave me a prescription for some kind of medicine for something, uh, a rhythm--"

"Arrythmia?"

"Yeah, and I lost the prescription, so I was hoping you could give me something to take."

  1. Is that the source of the anxiety?

I have a benign arrythmia and combined with caffeine and new parent sleep deprivation, that thing was making me NUTS at night. I had nightmares of being scolded by ER staff and being told I was going to die by an angry RN.

Then would wake up to my heart just pounding and jerking sideways.

Hustled to the PCP right fast.

Unfortunately, there is no medication to make babies sleep through the night. Or to keep parents up, aside from caffeine.

Big Pharma needs to get on that. They would make a fortune.
