Break in the action

"I know who you are."

"Huh?"

"We know about your blog.  I think we'd prefer you stop posting for a while.  Not that there's necessarily anything revealing about what we've read -- I think it's the attitude more than the specifics, if that makes any sense.  And we know it's stylized for the blog, and different from you the person, but still.  We're not going to force you, and we're definitely not all on the same page about this, but if you wouldn't mind, maybe stop for a bit, if that's okay?"

Apologies for not sharing that news sooner, but I wanted it to settle for a bit.  I've been continuing to write, privately.  And maybe there's a way to share that more wisely, here or elsewhere.  And maybe there's a way to adjust what I've been writing here -- I'm having a conversation later this month about that, so there may be new posts then.  And maybe sooner, depending.  But for now, there's this post, until I take it down, which may be soon.  I don't know.

  2. I figured you were made. What did they mean by 'attitude'? I wouldn't say you sported an attitude at all. You gave us honest insight in to your daily life. Should you not have feelings? argh.

Don't let the B4st4rds drag you down.

  3. And there for a moment when, in your last post, you ended it with "Okay, I'll see you in six weeks"...that was for us and not for the patient.

I've missed your blog posts too, but I understand. Best wishes!

  4. I nervously await the results of your negotiations with administrators. Your blog does a lot of good, and I hope they recognize that and don't just react out of paranoid fears of what "might" happen. We miss you!

  5. Oh I'll miss your posts! But maybe you can shed your anonymous persona and start writing about different sorts of things? Better than not hearing from you at all!

  6. Oh no!
But holy crap, that is kind of scary.

  7. Really, I don't think you've shared anything that gives me a hint of who you are! You could go private, but then the bummer is that only your person friends get to follow you and I won't get my daily chuckle. Darn.

  8. Was probably bound to happen sooner or later. Enough posts with sufficient detail, and a decent following make for an easier sleuthing discovery. Hope you can find a way to keep giving us hints of your life in practice, but if not, it's been fun! Cheers, mate!!!

  9. That sucks. Not happy. Its not like you're giving anything away. Attitude? You mean entertainment.

  10. :-( I love your posts. I'm a RN so they really crack me up.

  11. That's such a shame! Your posts always made me laugh and I used to share them with my other half to give him a clue about what healthcare professionals have to deal with. I hope it doesn't get you into any trouble. It shouldn't as you followed all the rules about patient confidentiality and nothing says you aren't allowed to post. You'll be missed.

  12. I shall be extremely sorry to see you go.

  13. Hey Anon Doc! I'm so sorry to hear that. I for one think you do a great job of presenting that not-so-great parts of medical training with grace and humor. And I think you are very anonymous! Would you consider writing more of a lifestyle-type blog? Honestly, my favorite posts of yours have been the ones where you gave us glimpses into your psyche--and those seem to have gone away in favor of patient conversations--also funny. If you do have to leave, let us know where to find you. You have a lot of loyal followers and we'd hate to lose your writing voice forever. :(

  16. The American paranoia deep rooted by its infamous lawyers.

With every passing year in the medical field I seem to be acquainting myself with the legal issues more than I would like. And I am just in India.

I will miss you if you go away but I would not be surprised.

  17. As a former pre-med and now a first year medical student, I have loved reading your posts. Far from portraying a negative attitude toward medicine, you've made the profession human, faithfully demonstrating that at the end of the day, medicine is about people helping people, in all their quirky, touching, diverse glory. I think there's a lot of pressure in the medical community to maintain this persona of godliness for the sake of "patient trust" and "professionalism," but more often than not, failure to recognize the human element of the profession and its staff (doctors, nurses, etc.) just breeds jadedness. Blogs like this teach us all that even though medicine can be frustrating, its those same frustrations that make it so rewarding.

I very much appreciate what you have shared with us which, rather than pushing me away from medicine, has pushed me toward it. Your honesty, humor, and compassion really come through. I hope this doesn't cause you any grief--I can tell you're a wonderful doctor, with a lot of heart. If you can keep posting, I'll keep reading. If you can't, I understand and will also cherish what you did share.

Good luck with everything; I hope this little bump in the road doesn't get you down.

I was just accepted to medical school. 5 years ago I was in another career and had not taken a science course since high school. I was brought to medicine after witnessing the devastation poor healthcare was causing to our poor underserved.

I wanted you to know that your 'attitude' or whatever you want to call it has been an insight into the realities of healthcare. It has been not only a regular source of humor in my life but also a reminder that my life experience will be a asset not a hindrance. Your blog has helped keep me going. Thank you.

  25. Not sure if this kind of spamming is common, or they just love you, since I haven't read any other blogs from start to finish.
Hope all goes well for you this time for year and that perhaps the next one will bring some relief from outside pressures.
